I have contacted Bo’s Place an organization that has family grief support groups. I had trouble finding a grief support group because there were legal issues. The good thing is that I spoke to Ann Weiss and we were able to work something out. I have made a permission slip and I emailed it to her for her to review it and see if that will be fine to use if not then I might have to revise it. As we spoke she said it would take about 8 sessions for us to know if the support group will work out or not. She also said that for 6-8 children per group I would need 2 volunteer to be present. As we talked we figure that the best times to meet would be Fridays after school.

I am a little confused on who would lead the support group? If it's you, who would take over after you graduate? Fridays after school sounds reasonable because that's when mostly everyone has extra time. This way the sessions won't be as tight because of time issues and such. If the people like the sessions then I'm sure you'll probably need more time so Fridays are great for that reason.
ReplyDeleteWhat a breakthrough, Elizabeth. Have you checked this out with Ray to make sure the groups can happen on Fridays (if students have their own transportation). Will Ann Weiss be volunteering her time to help us? Will you be the other volunteer? Can you train some younger students, so they can carry on with your work?
